Safety record wins ScotAsh fifth RoSPA Gold Medal

The Gold Medal marks five consecutive Gold Awards for the company. David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager, said: “ScotAsh Ltd has shown it is striving for continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award.”

We're funding safety lessons for children

ScotAsh is sponsoring a safety education programme through the Children's Safety Education Foundation (CSEF).

More than 700 children die each year in the UK as a result of unintentional injury and 40,000 children and young people are taken to A & E.

CSEF educate thousands of children each year about issues such as road, fire and water safety, drugs, alcohol/solvent misuse, bullying, internet and mobile phone safety.

Perfect 10 for ScotAsh's Ray

Deputy Production Manager Ray Bellamy has just celebrated 10 years' service with ScotAsh.

Last year Ray marked his 40th anniversary of service with the Lafarge group and its predecessor, Blue Circle. He has worked in various roles throughout the wider group, including a four-year period in Nigeria with Wapco plc.

Ray joined ScotAsh as Team Leader on his return to the UK in 2001.

Now we're motoring: Chris Bennett takes the driver’s seat as the new wind-powered van is launched

ScotAsh's Chris Bennett was in the driving seat at the launch of the UK's first wind powered van in October.

Chris, who Chairs the sustainability group Green Business Fife, went to Methil's Hydrogen Office for the official launch of the van, which will be used by Fife Shopping and Support Services to deliver pensions and groceries to elderly and disabled people.

The van is powered by a wind turbine at the Hydrogen Office, which stores excess wind power via a system of electrolysis and hydrogen fuel

Safety Day looks at driving advice

The focus of ScotAsh's most recent Safety Day was road safety, when employees were given some helpful reminders about staying safe on the road and practical advice on car maintenance and the checks we should all make to ensure our safety.

There was also a talk on the role reversing cameras can play in ensuring safe reversing for lorries and other heavy plant.
